We crossed the border...(we are a border town...we are 8 km from the border and about 30 minutes from a little town in Idaho.... There we had all you can eat pizza...
The day before they left....we kayaked the river.....

We had a week of fun with the kids!!!...And every night...we had a game of Mexican Train..... the last night ...we were Mexican Train played out!!!

A 'Grand" week.......

We were blessed with a visit from our oldest grandchild....
 We kayaked....
to 'pops'favourite area...he calls it Driftwood Paradise!!...and he is a collector!
He had someone to help him 'collect' ....my rule is if he can't carry it...he doesn't take it...but grands don't follow that rule:)
This was my find at the river...
That evening we had two more grands join us...
We ended the evening with a game of Mexican Train!!

Heirloom Quilt Repair

It's hard to believe....but yes it is a heirloom....my grandma made it for me.....and its 50 years old!
The last time I washed it the noticed the edges were fraying...
I had some flannel that matched...so I put a binding on it....
It will be good for the rest of my life time!!
My grandma wasn't the greatest quilt...she made quilts cause you needed them. This one...the white is flour sacks.... the lining looked like flour sacks or just cotton.... it's special as grandma made it.... when I realize how fast time goes... I think...who will have this quilt in 50 years....or will it be discarded?......

Apricots

We picked 30 pounds of apricots.....

We are enjoying all the fruit we have....and preserving it for the winter months!!

 We canned....
 We dried....
We made jam... I used a recipe from Mennonite Girls can cook...and yes those are pits in the jam... don't ask why....just because ...but I don't think I'll do the pits another year:) They were a nuisance to get out!!! And I don't really think they do anything??
Pies are yet to come...and as I write this...we have finished processing our peaches as well!

Garden Shed

Our daughter has been working with her husband....designing decks and sheds that he constructs.
She designed a 'Kootenay Cottage" for us and they came to build it.

Now we just have to work on the landscaping around our new Kootenay Cottage!!

Sunflowers...

This spring I planted some dwarf sunflowers to border my garden...
I planted some taller ones...that have been slow coming...they were call Munchiks...
These 'Munckins' are just starting to bloom...
then I got these guys growing...
I have NO idea where they came from??

I love that I can grow Sunflowers... in Alberta I could not grow them...maybe our nights were too cold or our summer to short... all I know they never grew!
I've enjoyed them outside and in the house!!
I thought I would try drying them for the fall...
They are in a dark place...drying... I looked today ...I have a feeling ...it isn't going to work for me...so I'll have to see how long they last in the garden....so far I still have an abundance of them!

Good Fences

Most of our yard has natural fencing... at the front there was a space....

Hubby built an Arbor...and I insisted on an old gate we  'rescued' ....

Solar lights come on at dusk...
