Chess Set Completed

Some of you were interested in seeing how the Chess Set Hubby was working on progressed. He continued carving each of the men down south...finishing them the best he could with the tools he had with him.
When we arrived home....he spent all his spare time trying to finish the set so he could take it on our trip to visit family and play the first game with them!
After giving each piece a final sanding, He made a frame for the board, (his plan is to put a drawer under the box for storage of the men).
Then a weight was inserted in the bottom of each piece...
The staining and waxing began...
Felts were then put on the bottom of each piece...
 And trimmed...

The game is completed and between his son and grands,.....time will only tell how many games he will win! He taught the grands to play...he taught them well....he now has a hard time beating them:)

Valley of Names

Valley of Names....a place in the desert where people write there names.

Of course it's a drive to get there thru the desert....but we quite enjoy it!

We didn't come prepared to leave our names...but found enough rocks to leave our initials...luckily they are the same
We tried to get a selfie of us with the initials...but it was hard to get them in

I find beauty in the desert....
 The landscaped changed....

Then we arrived to the campground...and yes there are campers there even though its quite the trek...
It's along the Colorado River...
Yes we brought our Kayaks...to be continued.....

Colorado River Kayak

We had a great trip up the Colorado River!
Some one had built Tipi Frames
Passed a group of tubers floating down the river
Past some old wooden steps and an old storm sewer....
maybe used by Yuma Territorial Prison just down the river at one time???
There was enough current we were able to float back down the river..
St Thomas Indian Mission on the hill in Winterhaven California
Back to where we launched our kayaks
Pictures were taken by hubby as I did not have my camera along.

Sunset

The girls wanted to see a sunset, so we went to a golf course patio for supper and to watch the sunset...

I must say ...I have seen better desert sunsets...
But it was a wonderful way to end our visit with the girls!

Miss Pepper…..she changed our life… But life wouldn’t be as full without her! She is a kind sweet puppy that always ‘try’s😳’ to please.
