Krispy Kremes

Years ago we had a Krispy Kreme store in Calgary, the only one in Alberta. Every time we were in Calgary, we would take a trip to the store and look for that light on the front and we would get a free doughnut... Now I am not a doughnut person...but those hot donuts were wonderful... then one day...we went and the store was closed...so that was the end of Krispy Kreme in Canada, for us.
Lately in the good old U.S. of A...I have not found a store that sold them...hot and fresh until this trip... It was close to Seattle...and guess what...

We took a walk down the bike trail...

Past beautiful wild flowers...

And look what we found...

Yes FRESH HOT DOUGHNUTS....

They were worth every calorie...but only one...until next time!
Well tomorrow our trip begins...we are heading North...yes North to Alaska!  See you there!

Lots of Water Under the ...Restaurant...

It was the fall of 1973 and we were celebrating our First Wedding Anniversary.
We visited Coeur d'Alene Id. and went to a Floating Restaurant for supper.

Thirty Eight plus- years later we were passing thru and stopped for the night at a RV park...
and what did we see. . .  a Floating Restaurant...the one we had visited in 1973 right beside the RV Park!

I remember 1973... I was 6 months pregnant. Hubby called this restaurant...got off the phone and said...
I don't know if we should eat there. They serve Frogs???
Well it ended up it was Prawns... We had never heard of 'prawns' before!!

A lot has happened in the last 38 years...but it was fun to visit the restaurant after all these years...

A wonderful evening started our holidays!

Dog House

Our youngest grandson has been wanting to build their new dog a dog house.
So Pops spent an afternoon with him...

Pops is a stickler for plans....
Measuring...
Drilling nail pilot holes...
Hammering begins...

It's going together fast!
Almost there...
All in an afternoon!!!
Now we can take it home to shingle it and paint it!!
Pops just needs more days like this...now that he is retired!

Swimming Pool

For the past three years we have put up a swimming pool.
And every fall we wonder if it was worth it?
Usually the end of May we have some warm days and we put our pool up.. June came and rain came and the weather never got hot...so this is what our pool looked like the end of June...

But then...we had A hot day... so we set that pool up!

After set up we have to let it warm up... pool temperature was 11C..
then the rains came and the floods came...
The 3 days it didn't rain we were away... We had 11 days of rain...
days of checking the pool, running the filter...and we wonder
WHY DO WE DO THIS?!?!?!
Then....
The pool is a balmy 22 C. The sun is out and oh how relaxing!
The kids come over and make memories...

We have a splashing time!... even if its only a few times during the season....
Makes us think all that work is worth it!

Antique Stores and such....

Everyone once in awhile we find ourselves visiting antique and second hand stores.
Hubby looks for old tools and I just look.
A few things I picked up....

Cost $40.00
Sometimes I find something I think I can't live without...
This tin picnic basket was one of those things... I love the look...
but even after hubby bartered...we probably paid too much...
Bought in Peachland B.C.

Cost $8.00
This butter dish I found, I love depression dishes.
Now we don't have butter in the squares that fit in it...so it was hard to use unless I cut my butter to fit.
The past couple years we have found ourselves visiting the US a couple times a year, so now I stock up with US butter and use this dish constantly. Found in Leavensworth WA.

Cost $15.00
I found these three jars...that matched my butter dish. So I had to have them!
 (found them in Helena MT)
Cost $35.00
In Oacoma, South Dakota I found these trays...I had a hard time deciding on them...but they have been a great buy. They fold flat and fit perfectly in our RV. The great debate is...keep them 'old' or repaint them..?

I was out for my morning walk, past the second hand store and saw these chairs in the window...they looked like metal antique chairs...and the price was right...
I thought they would go good with my metal trays...
Cost $4.00 each

I went into the store and said I will take those two chairs in the window...
When I got them...they were plastic...and from....IKEA...hmmm well the price was right and they may not be antiques...but we do use them!

Do you enjoy shopping for antiques or second hand things?

Strawberries....

Are ready....

Nothing tastes better than fresh strawberries from your garden.

I found a new recipe online that I tried out on the grand kids and they loved it...
Peanut Butter Squares and Fresh Strawberries...?
You can check out the recipe.
It actually was a nice to change to the regular strawberry shortcake that you make!

How do you like eating strawberries?
I prefer FRESH STRAWBERRIES!

On the road home...

Well our short trip was a splash!!
But we had to head home..
Have you ever noticed that summer time
Road Construction is always happening?
Traffic is not only heavier than normal...
but it's slower because of the construction?
In our country I realize that summer is the only time they can do it..
but what a way to wreck a beautiful drive!
I guess roads have to be improved...mountains have to be blasted...

On this trip we go through a pass with a number of snow sheds.
Every trip we think.. how many are there?
I think it's seven...but somehow we always lose count...then when we do get the number...
next trip we aren't sure...is it 6 or 7 sheds through here?
So I was driving home and I said to hubby...take a picture of each one...then we will know...
well you have to know my hubby...one picture of a shed is not enough...he needs one of every angle...so I have 30 pictures of sheds... so much for that!
Is there anyone out there who knows...how many snow sheds on the Roger's Pass?

some are quite dark..others have light...
Wonder what it would be like to get caught in one?
Daughter's saw bears...we weren't that lucky..but did see mountain goats. . .
 Stopped at Banff for supper...
That's it for our road trip thanks for coming along...

Road Trip continued...

Our time away was very short.
We only had one day ...
but we did get see our oldest grandson row...
Visit the lake with our 2 daughters and 6 grand kids...
We had 3 kayaks,
one dingy,
10 people to take from beach 1 to beach 2....
Hubby and I each got a kayak...(because we are old?)
Youngest grand child had dingy...you can see him ahead of me...
Hubby had a rider...
(hmmm no lift jacket?? the kids needed them...and he thinks he can't swim!)
Oldest grandson got a kayak and a rider...
now lets see there are 10 of us..
four, five six on the water rafts...
count the bodies in the water 7, 8, 9, 10...(glad they got the lift jackets!)
YEP...we are all here!
Now did the girls say we have 1 km to go???

Canadian Rockies

Hubby and I went on a little road trip. So I hope you don't mind...but I'll give you a little tour.
We took the little Miata..it is so wonderful to be able to smell the pines, and see the tops of the mountains with the roof down. Plus we were able to take pictures as we travelled...
Praire Meets Mountains
More snow than normal for this time of the year!

I love the colour of the rivers...
We passed numerous lakes and rivers.

Narrow roads...
Lots of rock...
Lots of waterfalls down the mountain side.
They were hard to capture driving by.
Some sprayed right onto the road.

A new part the highway. Driving thru a mountain.
The beauty of the rockies never cease to amaze me.
I have taken this drive at least once a year for probably 40 years...
and I still am amazed at the beauty!!

National Puppy Day

Miss Pepper…..she changed our life… But life wouldn’t be as full without her! She is a kind sweet puppy that always ‘try’s😳’ to please.
