Desert Hike

I thought we should do a hike...to explore around Yuma. 

I found a little hike 4.3 miles round trip... No problem.

 Hiking in the desert is different from what we are use to.

Living close to the Canadian Rockies...we are use to lakes...trees
These mountains...are quite brown...but I have to say..

they do have a beauty of their own!

The information on the hike...had said it was steep...?

We hit a few rocky spots...

In the distance...is our destination...

By all those poles...

The hike is called

Telegraph Pass

 The last part of the hike is were it gets steep...

I started worrying....if I would be able to get down:)

 Trail head elevation is 499 ft.

Elevation gain is 1227 ft.

At the top...in the east you can see the farm land of Wellton,

To the west... the Foothills area and Yuma beyond.

Now we just have to go down...

We passed this little guy on the way down...

As well some cacti starting to bloom....

I walked by this.... 

then I though....

Someone is going to get it....and we don't have a BBQ down here...

We don't eat much meat....so it's not a great need.

But in the last month... I fried steak for 2 sets of company....

Now that would be a handy freebie!

So I just picked it up and away I went home!

Inside was everything we needed!!

It's been awhile since we have used a BBQ like this!

We started with salad....

On our new dishes...

(A find at Kohls...$1.49 a plate)

 Our whole meal fit on the BBQ..

It was so nice to cook outside.... the temp was around 80F

 What a great find...and we had a great meal!

Sunday's Best #3

I know it is a simple thing..

but I get excited when I see flowers...

in February!

I must say I have never seen a pink and yellow flower like this before!

I believed it is called a Lantana?

Shuffleboard Tournament

Shuffleboard Tournament...Monday morning...

We were told to be at the court at 8:00 am... 

Tournament starts at 9:00 am

we arrived at 8:15 am

Tournament days start with coffee and donuts...

And eager players  ready for the week!

Game #1

Remember this is our first year at Shuffleboard...

Some of the players...have been here for 20 years..

Then are very experienced..

Here Hubby got 8 points...

I know for me...it feels so good when this happens...

until your opponent knocks it out.

In a tournament...you play for yourself, you don't have partners.

After the first game...we both lost... but had played good games

Day two ....

Hubby had a slow start to his game...started getting points a bit to late.

Lost his game...so that put him out of the tournament.

My opponent...ended up in the hospital..

So that meant I won the game....

I still played....with what they call a pusher.

So that meant I was in the semi finals...and had another game on day 3.

Day 3

It was a fun game... I played my best game ever...

but lost. 

The tournament increased our appreciation for Shuffleboard...

One year...

Has pasted since I started my blog.

Thanks to my Firstborn who helped and inspired me. 

It has been a rewarding experience meeting so many wonder people! 

Now... this is a new bird to me...

She whipped up a cake!!

She even cleaned up!!!

But today she has whipped up another year...she's turning 12.

Grapefruits...and more Grapefruits!

Our neighbour gave us grapefruits...

Another neighbour took Brian picking grapefruits..

The tree was very tall ...

they had a picker that you use to twist the grapefruit off.

The tree was full of grapefruits..

.even though the owner has been picking all week.

We now have more grapefruits...

We've made grapefruit salads...

Had grapefruits for breakfast...

Made fresh grapefruit juice...

Grapefruits...a nice way to celebrate!

Nostalgic Valentines. . .

Well hubby and I are not into Valentines...
At home he often buys me flowers and we may go out to eat...
but neither of us like the busyness of the restaurants on this day.

Hubby had seen this....
we haven't had Drive-In Restaurants like this for YEARS in Canada...

We thought Valentines was the perfect time to visit one...

Now you have electronics to place your order with....

They are still delivering with roller skates..

They don't leave the tray on your window..like they use to.

But we had a wonderful greasy meal...

reminiscing on the times we would visit the A & W

 in his 1962 Pontiac 2 door hard top.
