A bit of This and That
Stone Cabin...on the road to Yuma. (You can get a date shake here...or one of the biggest hamburgers I have ever seen!)
One of the many canals we bike and walk around almost every day....
One thing I do not like to do....
But endured for two and a half hours...I think I hit the air as many times as I hit the ball...
On this note...
We are about to head home to be with all our children and grandchildren for the holidays....
It's a bitter sweet time...
Bitter to leave this wonderful weather and lifestyle!
but sweet to be with those who mean the most to us...

"Re....... Grandparents"
The following was sent to me by my cousin...have heard that it has been around for awhile...but it was new to me!
After Christmas, a teacher asked her young pupils how they spent their holiday away from school. One child wrote the following:
We always used to spend the holidays with Grandma and Grandpa. They used to live in a big brick house, but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Arizona . Now they live in a tin box and have rocks painted green to look like grass... They ride around on their bicycles, and wear name tags, because they don't know who they are anymore.
PRICELESS
Someones 'retarded' grandpa...with his bike! |
"RETARDED (Retired) GRANDPARENTS"
Written by a third grader, on what his grandparents do.
They go to a building called a wreck center, but they must have got it fixed because it is all okay now, they do exercises there, but they don't do them very well. There is a swimming pool too, but they all jump up and down in it with hats on.
Tin Houses... - Golf carts and more.. |
At their gate, there is a doll house with a little old man sitting in it. He watches all day so nobody can escape. Sometimes they sneak out, and go cruising in their golf carts. Nobody there cooks, they just eat out. And, they eat the same thing every night - early birds. Some of the people can't get out past the man in the doll house. The ones who do get out, bring food back to the wrecked center for pot luck.
Wreck Hall set up for Por Luck |
My Grandma says that Grandpa worked all his life to earn his retardment and, says I should work hard so I can be retarded someday too. When I earn my retardment, I want to be the man in the doll house. Then I will let people out, so they can visit their grandchildren.

Balloon Festival
Until today...I had know idea what a Balloon Festival was. Reading some information on events around Yuma I read about the Colorado River Crossing, Balloon Festival. I thought it would be a fun thing to go to. Then I found out that the only day we could go...the event started at 7:00 am? So away we went at 6:45am to see this happening. First of all we could not believe all the people that were there so early in the morning!
'Flag Ceremony'
The first balloon up has the Flag and the National Anthem is play.
(Now I know what the Flag Ceremony is!)
I was in awe as this was so new to me. I took lots and lots of pictures, which I am sure you do not want to see. So I will take you through the process of putting one balloon into the air. There were over 20 balloons in this launch scattered around the field.
The basket is unloaded and laid out, with a fan beside it.
The balloon is stretched out across the field.
That fan...blows air into the balloon to start blowing it up!
Once the balloon is high enough...they use the gas to finish blowing it up.
The basket is loaded..
And away she goes!
So that is happening all around you 20 x....The following are some pictures of the whole field.
In a matter of 45 minutes...the field was empty and the sky was full...

Swap Meet
The Swap Meet in Yuma is a bit different than the Markets...
A lot of 'second hand STUFF'....
Hubby is in his GLORY!!
I wandered around and did find...exactly what I was looking for!!
Baskets for our new bikes.... They were less that half the price of the new ones...and I got two...one for each of us! Best find so far in Yuma!!

This and That Musings
I was sitting with hubby...we were getting ready to go out. I was about to ask him if what I was wearing...looked okay...did it make me look fat...Before the words came out... I looked at what he was wearing. I realized that not once has he asked me if what he was wearing made him look fat...or if he looked okay. He knows what he likes to wear...he wears it...that is that!
Hmmm I wonder if there are men out there who has ever asked...if what they were wearing made them look fat?
Back home...when we go shopping more places than not...we have to pay for our bags. I try to remember to bring my own bags...it really gets me when I have to pay for a plastic bag.
We have been south for two weeks...
These are the plastic bags I have from shopping... I didn't have to pay anything for them!!
If you counted the bags I have 'used' for garbage... I would have a lot more bags...
I was thinking it was time to throw some away...but remembered a pattern I have back home for plastic bags... I'll have to get the work on that!

So...how do these boots look with these pants...? |
