How does My Garden Grow?

This spring I was anxious to get a garden planted. For years I struggled with a garden in a zone with a short growing season. Here I have around 2 extra months of garden growing weather....

But... the back yard was and still is... in need of LOTS of work...including the soil!. ... We had someone look at our backyard and they told me.... you can't plant a garden until you get some topsoil....

But I was not about to wait...lets get this garden growing and see what it does!!
So we added one little bag of manure....and a bag of peat moss..... and planted the garden...
Two week later...

I started to weed:) (I know it looks sad!)
We've been eating radishes, greens, and onions for a couple weeks.
This is my garden today...
And the veggies we are now eating...

We still have lots of work to do in our garden....but its so much fun being able to go to the garden to get your veggies for supper!!

Lavender

Always loved this plant....back in Alberta....the season is not long enough to grow it in abundance. Here in the Kootenay's the plant thrives!!!

You can decorate with it even as you dry it.
I'm taking advantage of all the Lavender....and enjoying it in my home as well as outside!

Pilot Bay Pennisula

We live 8 KM from the USA border ....the road you take from the border up to Kootenay Bay has over 270 curves in it! It is a very scenic fun drive that we enjoy. Along the road there are tourist attractions, coves to hike and explore, Artisan shops, restaurants.....this trip we explored a beach area on Kootenay Lake.
At the end of that road is a Ferry that takes you across Kootenay Lake. A shore drive from the ferry is Pilot Bay Pennisula...a short hike takes you to the Pilot Bay Lighthouse. It was a working lighthouse
for many years.
The lighthouse is open and you can climb right to the top!
The view is spectacular!

Front yard Makeover Completed!!

Our front yard needed help... I could not clean up the flower bed as the vine's roots were everywhere!!!
We needed more parking space.... watering grass sometimes not an option in the summer.... so with this in mind this is what we did ...
Yesterday we could say the front now is now complete!! Low maintenance...just need a bit of time to let the flowers grow in!
Earlier in the spring....I thought the front needed a bit of colour
The last thing we did....was remove the (blue some said it was grey??) outdoor carpet..
Hubby painted a type of rock finish .... It is grey:))
So we have one outside project done! ....we can move into the backyard!

It's been awhile!

Almost 5 months.... since I have posted.... life has been busy... I've started a few posts but just never was motivated to finish them....

For those of you who have followed me regularly... know that we moved to British Columbia...bought an older home and was remodeling it....then we headed south for the winter...we have now lived in our 'new' home for 4 months....

We are loving the town we live in... and love the 'new' life we have. Today we went for a hike...something we haven't done for awhile...and I was overwhelmed with such gratefulness of where we live....what we have and what we enjoy in this area that it made me want to write about our new life here....

So.... I am going to try to re-vamp my blog .... and share our new experiences...the Blog will be called 'Our Life in the Kootenays)

Before I end.... in March we had a new grand!
A little girl...
Who has grown a lot...one of the downsides of our move...she is 8 hours away...
So I'm saying goodnight from my deck in the Kootenay!

Castle Mountain MInes Museum

Now a ghost town.....Castle Dome was once a bustling industrial town housing 3000 people....
Restored buildings house authentic relics from the town’s past including old mining equipment, furniture and newspaper clippings.

A few open mines...
This area is about 10 miles off the main highway... I've always been attracted to the Castle Mountain.

The last few miles is a narrow gravel road...but the beauty of the desert is worth the drive!

National Puppy Day

Miss Pepper…..she changed our life… But life wouldn’t be as full without her! She is a kind sweet puppy that always ‘try’s😳’ to please.
