This weekend we went out to the mountains....
took a walk to the Hoodoo's...
they don't know where the name came from....

Flora that's fantastic to have a weekend get away, the Hoodoo's sound like a nice place to visit.

"The name "Hoodoo" comes from the word "voodoo" and was given to these geological formations by the Europeans. In the Blackfoot and Cree traditions, however, the Hoodoos are believed to be petrified giants who come alive at night to hurl rocks at intruders." I got this from here if you want to take a look.

ReplyDeleteMy google result defines a "hoodoo" (also called a tent rock, fairy chimney, and earth pyramid) as "a tall, thin spire of rock that protrudes from the bottom of an arid drainage basin or badland."

ReplyDeleteIl thought the hoodoos were the rocks with mushroom caps on top like in the Drumheller area and Writing on Stone. Now I know better.
